Custom Powder Coating

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is an advanced finishing process that coats selected parts with a fine powder of ground resin and pigment. The parts are electrostatically charged and over-cured to create a paint-like finish. The powder can be used on a variety of materials including steel, zinc, aluminum, and brass among others. Powder coatings have the capability of outlasting paint and plating, and they are exceptional at resisting solvents, acids, alkalis, and abrasions.

Misc BladesSummary of the Powder Coating Process
The process involved in the treatment is a well-defined and extremely important series of steps to insure quality coating. The process begins with removing dirt, oil or other contaminants from the surface of the item to be coated with abrasive blasting. The pigment and resin coating, which has a positive charge, is then applied to the electrically grounded item. Once the powder is applied, the item is heat cured in an oven to form the final finish by fusing the coating to the base material.

BracketPreparation for Coating
Powder coating uses the special elements of electricity in order to create its smooth finish. The piece to be coated is electrically grounded while the electrostatically charged powder, consisting of charged particles of pigment and resin, is applied to it. Typical temperatures for curing range from 250° Fahrenheit to 450° Fahrenheit. During the curing process, these particles fuse to the surface of the item and form a hardened coating.

Industry and Consumer Applications
The powder coating process is available for nearly any metal and many other materials. Powder coating's applications are as varied as those who employ them. The process allows for complete coverage of an item, which will provide resistance to scratches, chemicals and other abrasions, while remaining friendly to the environment for both producers and consumers. Michiana Impreglon® Center is equipped to provide for both industrial and consumer markets.

Benefits of Powder Coating

  • Durability — Items which are treated with powder coatings often outlast coatings of paint or plate. Powder coated materials can provide desirable resistance to scratches, impacts and chemicals.
  • Quality — The application of powder coating will appear seamless; a single application of often all that is needed for complete coverage of an item.
  • Environment-friendly — Neither the process nor the product are harmful to the environment. The coating process re-uses material and air, and no solvents are used during application. Finished products do not need to be repainted or treated with harsh chemicals to ensure protection from outside elements.
  • Savings of time and money — You can find other coaters, but Michigan Impreglon® Center specializes in service. We offer quick turnaround time to suit your business needs.
